How Do You Speak To A New Moon?
Saturn opposes this New Moon in Virgo, meaning the intentions you set are weighty.
New Moon in Virgo
Maybe speaking to the Moon isn’t something you are accustomed to. And for those who do converse with this luminous mirror of the sun, a New Moon isn’t found in the night sky to speak to directly. During this fertile moment, the Moon is riding as co-pilot to its solar companion, and the evening’s midnight display is one of sparkling diamonds in the form of stars and planetary bodies. A New Moon is the darkest night in the Moon cycle, allowing for a depth of contemplation required for the threshold crossing and release of one cycle unto the next.
Pluto’s Return to Capricorn
Surfing tidal waves is an appropriate metaphor for the last few months and the months ahead. I’m sitting on a couch; it feels later than it is, and I am nursing an injury, which means I feel even more sensitive to my surroundings than usual. My body is healing, and I’m deep in observation as I sink into the last hours of this past lunar cycle. The two recent Full Moons have been so potent and complex that I’ve been in awe of the cosmic orchestration building up to an eventual crescendo that may reveal itself before or around Pluto’s ultimate return to Aquarius on November 19th. There is an accumulative power in the current message for humanity, a cosmic drama full of lessons and karmic paybacks unfolding. Today, September 1st, (the day I’m writing this) Pluto returns to Capricorn for the last lap in our lifetime, wrapping up 16 years of roto rooting through the Patriarchal caverns of politics and governmental structure.
Whatever happens through the end of this year will be memorable for sure. Uranus stations retrograde today in a true rebellious fashion after so much unstable tension accrued as the focus of the T-square of the last Full Moon on August 19th. Uranus is ready for some revolution and is stepping back like a slingshot to launch forward on January 30th, 2025.
Inner Work(ing Out)
The themes of this New Moon are laden with burdens, obstacles, confusion, deception, heavy lifting, rumors, and the necessity to get your ducks in a row, regardless of how unmotivated you may feel to do so. That may seem pessimistic, but I will press up against the Mars square Neptune aspect with a direct hit of what to be diligent for rather than flow with the obscurity and murkiness these two are conjuring. Think of this month as a great time to return to the gym of the psyche if you haven’t been working out for a while. You might experience a dullness in attitude to getting there; muscles ignored for months may feel sore and tired initially, yet once you find your rhythm and routine, you’ll be sharper and more precise in thought, word, and action than before.
Saturn opposes this New Moon in Virgo, meaning the intentions you set are weighty, and the clarity of your analysis that you seek will take effort (see above). A reminder that this is the beginning of the moon cycle that will ripen into a Full Moon lunar eclipse on September 17th. In true Virgo nature, this time is about working on more profound layers of your habits, especially concerning your work, service, health, and well-being. The upcoming eclipse portal, from September 17th until October 2nd, offers a powerful resource for purging what doesn’t belong in your future. Use this time and get a head start by observing what isn’t working and where the roadblocks are showing up while envisioning what a clear path might reveal for you.
A Conjunction of a Trinity
Lastly, I’ve been attentive to the South Node, Black Moon Lilith, and Juno conjunction for three weeks. Every time I want to set it down, this trinity keeps nudging my awareness, reminding me of its message and inviting inner work. The past is a radical concept, both living (in our minds) and nonexistent (as in over); this paradoxical realm is such a vast treasure and simultaneously can be a detrimental trap. The South Node represents our past, where we have been, who we have been, our behaviors, ways of being, and thinking of old, and even points to our most recent life’s residue. Black Moon Lilith represents the shadow of the feminine, a little sister to Pluto, and represents self-betrayal. One question you can ask yourself in the face of your Lilith is, “Where have I denied myself of my truth?”
Juno, named for the wife of Jupiter, indicates our approach to partnership and can represent the influential partnerships in your life. Venus is now entering the mix, emphasizing this energetic huddle, and is the ruler of Libra, where all this takes place. A South Node conjunct Venus in Libra alone would indicate a potential release of patterns and ways of being in relationship that you’ve outgrown. With Lilith and Juno present, having traveled together in recent weeks, there is a brewing undercurrent emerging to the surface that may assist in answering the question above — where have you denied yourself of your truth when relating within your partnerships?
New Moon Reflection
A dark moon is a calling inward, a reflective time to review where you’ve been and where you are going. A Virgo New Moon is one of harvesting the insight you’ve gained and contemplating how to apply it to your next steps. The vestal virgins of Virgo are the guardians of the eternal flame of your heart, your inner hearth. Whether or not prayer is your practice, now is a beautiful and perhaps necessary moment to speak to this moon as it lives inside of you. Our inner moon is our rhythm keeper and first (emotional) responder in regard to our feelings. As the tidal waves ebb and flow these next few months, attuning to your moon as reflected or hidden in the night sky can offer both guidance and understanding.
All my best to you, and please receive the piece of my heart that lives inside these words,
