I don’t think so. Not right now, and my question is—have we ever? As human beings, in this current humanity, have there been extended periods of peace on earth? Google will tell you no, although relatively peaceful times did follow WWII, or refer you to the Pax Romana during the Roman Empire. But in truth, and in our current collective state of being, people fight other people due to, but not limited to, socio-economic differences, political ideologies, and the endless pursuit of justice (or revenge).
Is anyone else out there in total awe as you observe the state of affairs and how various communities are processing this moment in time? Neptune is conjunct the North Node this week and has been creating a haze or fog around our personal and collective destined direction. Confusion abounds, meanwhile, yesterday Jupiter shifted direct in Gemini as Venus entered Aries. My take on this is that through our faith and courage, we may persevere through these transits of intense beginnings and shattering endings, finding ourselves in new realms of thought and dialogue. All around the world, the tension continues to increase in the realms of difference: us versus them, black versus white, red versus blue, rich versus the poor, all while the billionaires are creating a new world that we will be forced to live in whether we like it or not. Something has to and will give.
Political Divide
The United States continues to divide politically and also in terms of reality. Is it a radical experience to feel burdened by the weight of, at minimum, another 4 years of torture when your neighbor is feeling elated and hopeful in ways they haven’t felt in a long time? Or if you see a new future unfolding full of potential, promise, and actual change, does it feel strange to see your family members, colleagues, etc, moping around in emotional destitution?
I was listening to KQED (NPR Radio) recently, and they highlighted two journalists covering the presidential inauguration from different corners of the US. One was in Palm Beach, Florida, at a party down the road from Mar-A-Lago, and the other was in downtown Detroit at an MLK event celebrating his birthday. Both were packed with citizens concerned about the state of the world and today’s issues, spending their valuable time and bringing energy to celebrate a leader in their eyes.
In Palm Beach, the feeling was excitement; more than hopeful, the attendees wept with inspired glee. The journalist interviewed several people who truly felt the nation was finally getting back on track and had taken a turn for the better. Glitzy ballgowns, red hats, and grins from ear to ear—these people were happy.
In Detroit, the mood was solemn. There were prayers, biblical scriptures speaking of the differences between the righteous and the wicked when in power, and a plea to the new president to acknowledge the other half whose lives and well-being were at stake with the new orders he was executing. People in the room jeered at the 47th President’s words about unification and seemed disenchanted at best.
Plutonic Leadership
Some of my clients want to bury their heads for the next 4 years, and my response to them is if you are trying to hide in plain sight from reality, you should plan for more than 4 years. We are not in just another election term. As far as I can see, we’ve entered a new-forming governing structure that will continue dismantling what we’ve known in this country over the last 250 years.
Whether you love, hate, or avoid him altogether, it is hard to deny that DT is a Change Agent who brings true Uranian energy to the table. A rebellious, unpredictable, and churn-making force, he “fits” the description of a world leader under Pluto (Power, Control, Manipulation, Underworld) in Aquarius (Independent, Unpredictable, Eccentric, Authentic). His tactic is one of shock value, to stungun his worldwide audience into a particular acceptance or refusal, and neither of these reactions matters to him at the end of the day. Energy is energy, and he wields the “any press is good press” sword as he perseveres beyond any challenge. As one dear friend shared their observation with me, he only gets stronger with every obstacle or attack. Not to mention, he was sworn in with Pluto and Sun conjunct, placing an exclamation point on this parallel.
Spare Change
Change is here, that is an undeniable truth. But at what cost? And for whom? My sense is that change will cost each of us what is familiar, cozy, preferred, and sentimental. And for whom? Everyone in one way or another. As I’ve stated in previous journals, we are all in this boat together. At times it seems one group suffers more than another, while another group may have all the glamor and riches. However, we are all human, we suffer and are gripped by the invisible enemy of our own ego at a detrimental and concerning level. When this becomes conscious, the seemingly disparate life situations dissolve because no one gets out of here alive, and no one is immune to the reality behind the curtain, or that which is hidden.
Curtain of Consciousness
Typically, we all lead lives that are uniquely our own. Disclaimer: that statement might be argued in this time when many of us act like common peasants devoted to the Royal Kingdoms of Social Media, The News, Politics, and The Economy, surrendering our power to platforms promising likes, fame, and money or our giving our attention and lifeforce to “the powers that be.” While enslaved to these false promises, it is hard to find a way out. If you somehow loosen yourself from the grip of a platform, news channel, etc., you may instantly trade it out for the new golden child media source that promises autonomy, truth, and creative freedom…for now. Let’s be real: if truth is what you seek, it most likely will not be found on social media or a news channel due to the prevalence of deceit and venerated falsehoods.
I digress. Many of us lead unique lives, yet we are surviving the constant barrage of comparison hell that haunts every person on social media and threatens authenticity and individuality. But the point I am attempting to make is that regardless of how different we are in race, gender, culture, religion, etc, we are still human beings, which ties us all together. This also means that we are all subject to the same human things that differentiate us from house plants or penguins, for example. We live, get sick, and die (and so do our plants and penguins), so what distinguishes us from most other life forms on Earth? Our beloved egos. This is a topic to explore in greater depth. For now, the reality of how much the mechanism of the ego is directing our lives behind the curtain of our conscious mind can only be discovered when making the unconscious conscious.
A closing thought: Before we can truly get along with others, we have to learn how to get along with ourselves. How are you doing in that department? Google may not have the answer to how we may eventually find peace on earth, but you do.
